Tomas Venclova

A Lithuanian poet, essayist, prose writer and translator, Venclova was born in 1937 in Klaipeda. In 1977, as an opposition activist, he was forced to emigrate to the United States. He was a member of the editorial team of Zeszyty Literackie. Venclova was honoured for his creative commitment to the values that underpin European civilisation.
